Expand your terrain set with extra River tiles. The River tiles are available either in 6 regular designs (straight and turns), a River Ford tile (including parts of a road) or a Widening River Turn tile (which can be upgraded to a partial marshland). They may have three finishes: painted, liquid glass or floating ice blocks (which included liquid glass). The flow may represent: water, lava, green toxic waste, or a dry river bed.
THIS IS AN ADD-ON - IT ENHANCES A REGULAR PEDION SET
Each Tile is 30cm x 30cm (1' x 1') and 1cm deep; the majority are made from polystyrene and PVC, with Resin extra pieces.
The Tile is available in all available Themes.
River Tile
Part of the tile can be designated as River or Stream. It depends on the players, the scenario and/or the rules to define what this means; if it is impassable, if it includes difficult ground crossings/fords, or if bridges are required. As with Road Tiles, River Tiles are designed to connect to each other, forming a meander and crossing the battlefield from one side to another (not necessarily opposite ones).
We put our expertise in cartography and GIS to good use and digitized real-life data: the river flow and turns are not made-up, but copy parts of the flow of the Columbia River in the USA.
River tiles are among the most demanding tiles to produce, both regarding the time and the material needed. To keep the overall cost under control, the players may acquire two different versions of the River tiles: the Painted version or the Liquid Glass version which is more realistic but also a bit more expensive. The main difference between these versions is the addition of two-part resin on the river surface to emulate the water flow - check our the photos at the dev blog to see the difference.
The River Widening is a special river tile (a river Turn, joining to the rest of your river tiles) which meanders and the water is in the process of creating an oxbow lake.
What really makes the difference though, is that you can at anytime convert these tiles into marshland. With the corresponding add-on, you can clip on and off swamp surface, creating a partial marshland on a river side. The partial marshland addon also includes a magnetic Willow tree.
The marshland motif has been drawn from Luisiana marshland images. The riverside marshland is formed at the wider side of the river. This is not common, since water flows faster outside, but it made for a bigger marsh; so let's assume that the outer curve would be the place with lots of alluvial which would help to create a marsh if the water would again erode the closer turn
